What the work looks like

These are the jobs clients ask for most often in this category.

Home cleaning

Regular weekly or fortnightly cleaning of flats and houses — the most requested job in this category, and the one that turns into repeat work fastest.

End-of-tenancy cleaning

Move-out cleaning to Swiss handover standard. One-off, well paid, usually booked with a fixed price for the whole flat rather than per hour.

Windows and deep cleaning

Windows, kitchens, bathrooms, balconies, spring cleaning. Often booked on top of a regular job by clients who already trust you.

Ironing and everyday help

Ironing, laundry, tidying, grocery runs, help after a party or before guests arrive. Short jobs that fill gaps in your week.

What you can earn

You set your own price and agree it directly with the client — Werkara takes no fee until the end of October 2026, then 9 %. The figures below are usual market rates in Switzerland, not a Werkara tariff.

Job Usual rate
Home cleaning CHF 30–40 / hour
End-of-tenancy cleaning CHF 400–900 per flat
Windows / deep cleaning CHF 35–45 / hour
Ironing and everyday help CHF 28–35 / hour

Guide values. Rates are higher in Zurich, Zug and Geneva than in rural regions, and higher for evening, weekend and short-notice work. Income from tasks is taxable — see our article on tax and AHV.

Who we are looking for

No formal qualification needed

Cleaning is not a regulated trade in Switzerland. What clients look for is reliability, care with their home, and reviews from previous jobs.

Your own products — or theirs

Most clients have their own cleaning products. Bring your own if you prefer specific ones; say so in your profile and charge for it.

Language is rarely a barrier

Written instructions and chat translation make this one of the easiest categories to start in with English only — but a few words of German or French help.

How it works

From registration to your first paid task in three steps:

  1. Sign up free — Takes a few minutes on the website. No sign-up fee, no credit card.
  2. Create your profile — Say what you do, where you work and what you charge. Add photos and any certificates.
  3. Get tasks — Clients near you post tasks. You choose what fits, send your offer and agree the details directly.

Good to know before your first task

Cleaning itself needs no permit. Two limits are worth knowing: professional pest control with fumigants and disinfection with authorised biocides require a Fachbewilligung under the Chemicals Risk Reduction Ordinance, and façade work from a lift platform falls under construction safety rules.

More detail: which work needs a permit in Switzerland · tax, AHV and insurance for freelancers. Werkara is a platform, not an authority — the binding answer always comes from the responsible cantonal office.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I earn cleaning in Switzerland?

You set the price yourself and agree it directly with the client; Werkara takes no fee until the end of October 2026, then 9 %. As a guide, home cleaning is usually between CHF 30 and 40 an hour, and an end-of-tenancy clean is normally quoted for the whole flat — often CHF 400 to 900 depending on size and condition.

Do I need experience or a certificate?

No. Cleaning is not a regulated occupation in Switzerland and no certificate is required. A complete profile with photos, a clear description of what you offer and your first reviews matter far more than paperwork.

Do I need to speak German or French?

Not to start. Many clients in Zurich, Zug, Geneva and Basel are international and communicate in English, and the chat translates. Learning the basics of your region’s language will widen the number of jobs you can take.

Do clients provide cleaning products?

Usually yes — most people prefer their own products for their home. If you bring your own equipment or eco products, mention it in your profile and factor it into your price.

Can I do this alongside a full-time job?

Yes. There is no minimum number of jobs and no fixed schedule; evenings and weekends are common for end-of-tenancy work. Check your employment contract for rules on secondary work, and see our article on tax and AHV.
